A young Tasmanian talent is making waves! Jakob Gibson, the 20-year-old rapper from Exeter, has become an overnight sensation, and his journey is one that will inspire many aspiring artists. With over 300,000 views across social media platforms, Jakob's appearance on Australian Idol has opened doors to a promising music career.
But here's where it gets interesting: Jakob wasn't there to win the competition. He saw it as a platform to showcase his unique style, a blend of melodic rap, hip-hop, and pop, and boy, did it work! Despite not advancing to the golden ticket round, he received three enthusiastic 'yes' votes from judges Kyle Sandilands, Marcia Hines, and Amy Shark.
In an exclusive interview, Jakob shared his perspective: "I used Australian Idol as a launchpad for my name. It was nerve-wracking, but performing in front of three judges was scarier than facing a thousand fans!"
And this is the part most people miss: Jakob's talent and determination led him to relocate to Sydney, the heart of the music industry in Australia. He received an offer from none other than Kyle Sandilands himself, granting him access to a studio for free. While he hasn't utilized those facilities yet, Jakob believes Sydney offers countless opportunities.
"There's so much more to explore here. The studios, the content creators, and the industry - it's all here!" he exclaimed.
Now, Jakob is planning to give back to his home state with a Tasmanian tour. He's already locked in a show in Devonport on April 25th and is working on securing venues in Launceston and Hobart.
"I feel the support of the entire state on my back now. Tasmanian fans have been incredible since my TV appearance, and I want to bring my music back home," he said.
