"Every Sunday, Locket takes over your Lock Screen with a Live Activity," Moss explains. "It's like a modern push notification, but more engaging. We want to encourage users to share moments they might not otherwise share."

And this is the part most people miss: Locket's success with Rollcall is not just about the technology. It's about creating a sense of community and connection. With over 91 million installs and a million shares in the first week of Rollcall, Locket has tapped into a desire for genuine social interaction.

"The Live Activity brings people together," Moss says. "It's a fun, shared experience. As friends share, it feels like we're all in it together."

Gen Alpha, in particular, has embraced Locket, with 80% of Rollcall's initial active users falling into this generation. Moss notes that Gen Alpha uses Locket as a primary connection tool, sending and sharing photos with their closest friends.

But how can Locket build on this success? Moss and his team are exploring ways to expand Rollcall beyond photos. Video support is a natural next step, but they're also considering incorporating music, favorite places, and weekly prompts. While Locket doesn't plan to venture into AI-generated content like Sora or Meta AI, they're exploring AI's potential for creating collages and photo memories.

"AI apps can be attention-grabbing, but there's something inherently satisfying about connecting with real people," Moss observes. "Locket aims to facilitate genuine connections, and we believe there will always be a demand for that."

The company is also considering how Locket can bridge the virtual and real worlds, even with simple reminders to call or text friends.

"For us, it's about creating meaningful connections, not just short-term fun," Moss says. "Being the place where people connect with their real-life friends could be our long-term strength."

With a subscription-based monetization model, Locket has achieved profitability with just 15 team members.
